Great news for users of Sonos speakers and Apple products. Come December 15, subscribers of Apple Music will have the option of queuing songs listed in the Apple catalog directly to their Sonos wireless speakers. The launch of this public beta service on December 15 signals Apple’s very first pairing with a hardware manufacturer out of house.

Joining the Revolution

Sonos speakers have been compatible with other music streaming services for some time now. Just like with Google Play, Pandora, Tidal and Spotify, this new system will allow users to play songs listed in Apple Music over their Sonos speakers by making use of the Sonos App. The app is available on PCs, Macs, Android and IOS. All that is required to participate in this beta program will be a subscription to Apple Music.

An Experienced Tailored to your Needs

Users can expect all of the flagship features they’ve come to enjoy on Apple Music, such as the radio station Beats 1 as well as the “For You” service (playlists selected by Apple staff based on your favorite songs). Another stand-out feature, according to Sonos, will be called “My Music” – a collection of songs based on your specific iTunes downloads and streaming preferences.

A Partnership Like No Other

Apple Music made its début in June 2015 and since then, Sonos and Apple have been developing this unique partnership. In a first for the company, Apple is granting an outside company access to its content. Through the Sonos app, Apple will be allowing Sonos speakers to pull music straight from their online servers. Songs will not merely be streamed using a PC, tablet or phone, but will be played directly from the Apple Music server. Another first for Apple? The Apple Music application will now expand beyond the iPhone and be available on their rival Android operating system.

Moving into the Future

With the launch of this new beta system, users will be able to stream songs from Apple Music directly from their iPad or iPhone using AirPlay and Bluetooth. On whether this service will be compatible with any other hardware manufacturers in the future, Apple has declined to comment.
